Exploring the Reasons for the Low and Middle Class' Disdain towards the Rich

April 05, 2023

Screw the rich

The phrase “Screw the rich” has become a common slogan associated with anti-capitalism and far-left ideology. It can be interpreted as a metaphor for class struggle, a call for wealth redistribution, or even a direct call for violence against the rich. However, there are several underlying reasons for the low and middle class's hatred towards the rich that go beyond these interpretations.

, we will explore some of the main reasons why the low and middle class hates the rich and analyze their validity.

The belief that the rich are corrupt

Many people in the low and middle class believe that every rich person is corrupt. While it is true that some rich people have acquired their wealth through corrupt means, it is unfair to paint every rich person with the same brush. In reality, many people born into wealthy families have been groomed and prepared to fit in with people from the same social class.

They have been equipped with outstanding financial management skills, which sets them apart from others their age who have not had the same opportunities. However, the lower classes don't believe that the rich got where they are today because of their hard work and dedication. This might be due to their own laziness and reluctance to take the same risks as the rich.

Hatred towards the rich due to their wealth

The low and middle class are sometimes resentful towards the rich simply for possessing what they worked hard to attain. However, the character assassins usually have nothing to show for themselves. Individuals in the lower classes aren't satisfied with the wealth they currently possess, and instead of focusing on building themselves, they resort to hatred.

Health is more valuable than wealth, and a huge percentage of the lower classes have been blessed with good health. However, convincing them to appreciate this gem takes patience and consistency, and a positive mindset attracts positivity. The rich don't have time to investigate why the lower classes hate them, which is why we see them achieving milestones every other day while the lower classes remain stagnant.

Access to opportunities

One of the main things the rich have that the low and middle class may lack is opportunities. The rich are often in better positions for education and have access to the best healthcare and housing opportunities. Even in the workplace, the manager has a much easier life compared to the janitor. Such disparities make the lower social classes furious, believing that life favors the rich more.

Accusations that the rich are stingy with their money

Several low and middle-class people are dependent on their wealthy relatives. They believe that these better-off relatives should be able to solve all of their financial problems whenever they may arise. When they refuse to lend a helping hand, they are labeled as stingy. However, it is not fair to depend so heavily on someone that you ignore their responsibilities and dreams because they have more than you. Imagine being wealthy and having more than a dozen dependents pressuring you on top of your own nuclear family. No matter how fat that account is, it will get depleted when it's serving so many people. Therefore, this reason is a little unreasonable.

The assumption that the rich are luckier than them

Luck is a far-fetched idea that has made the low and middle class believe that fate is against them and in favor of the rich. However, everyone has been given the same opportunities as the rich, and we are responsible for where we end up. Some are put on the playing field with better tools for the job, but there is still an advantage for those who started with less. We all must experience luck in life, but the question is, where will it find you when it's your turn? Luck acts as a multiplier and will add on.
